Sleep Disorders
It is recommended that we sleep an average of 8 hours a night. Sleeping is a vital part of life, allowing your body to rest, repair and heal itself after the stresses of the day. Lack of sleep can cause not only extreme tiredness but an array of serious health issues.
Some sleep problems are caused by stress and other ailments but in some cases, it maybe your teeth and breathing that are causing the issues. At International Dental, we can treat sleep related breathing disorders such as snoring or sleep apnoea.
Oral Appliance Therapy
This treats both snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea in adults. We can fit you for an oral appliance which, similar to orthodontic retainers, is a device joined by a flexible connector and worn whilst asleep. It keeps your airway open by supporting the lower jaw and pumping air through flexible tubes.
If you are suffering from severe snoring or a sleep related breathing disorder, then please visit your doctor for a formal diagnosis.
Snoring
Snoring – is when the soft tissue in your upper airway vibrates as you breathe. It is a very common scenario especially for men, pregnant and menopausal women. Obesity, nasal obstruction, alcohol and smoking are all causes of snoring.
Sleep apnoea
is a disorder where you have one or more pauses in breathing or shallow breaths while you sleep. The breathing pauses can last a few seconds or even minutes and may occur 30 times or more an hour. If left untreated, it can be very serious.
